Alexandria LA, shares a special kinship with America’s military and the A-10 Thunderbolt II. The first Warthogs arrived at England AFB in 1980, where they were flown by the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing “Flying Tigers”. The base was closed in 1992 following the brilliant performance of the 23 FW and the A-10 in the first Gulf War, but remains a vital asset in close air support training held at Ft Polk, LA. Hawgsmoke 2004 honors the history of the A-10 at Alexandria, and the phenomenal people that flew, fixed and supported them in Rapides Parrish.
